Training Qualifications UK’s favourite charity, Hand on Heart, is hosting its fifth annual golf event on Thursday (5th September) and we’ll be there to support.
Supported by EPC-UK, the golf event aims to raise awareness of sudden cardiac arrest in young people and donations in order to assist the charity in supporting CPR and AED awareness activities in the local area including schools and the placement of lifesaving defibrillators in schools.
TQUK has long admired the work of the charity, regularly taking a team to their golf tournament events, sponsoring and attending their UK Heart Safe Awards and helping to provide the charity with CPR and AED learning resources for their training in the community.
Who are Hand on Heart?
Hand on Heart’s mission is to keep children safe and prevent the deaths of the 12 young people who die of sudden cardiac arrest each week in the UK.
In March 2010, Hand on Heart was established as a national campaign to raise awareness of cardiac arrest in the young and the need for defibrillators in schools. In January 2012 Hand on Heart became a standalone registered charity (No: 1145316) and continued their campaign and mission to raise awareness of cardiac arrest.
Facts about cardiac arrest
- A sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) can happen to anyone of any age, including children and young people
- Each year over 600 young people under 35 die from a SCA (270 of these will be children in schools)
- The only treatment for a SCA is Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and the use of a defibrillator (Automated External Defibrillator)
- If lifesaving treatment is administered within 3-5 minutes after a cardiac arrest, the victim has a 74% chance of survival
- Chances of survival of a cardiac arrest decrease by 10% per minute
Who attends?
60 players attend the event, which includes many who have helped to raise funds for Hand on Heart charity throughout the year, sponsors of the charity and returning/new players who would like to participate.
From TQUK, budding golfers Andrew Walker (Managing Director) and Matt Garrod (End-Point Assessment Officer) will attend on the day – we’ll be sure to get live updates from the team throughout the day.
What happens on the day?
There will be an 18 hole Texas Scramble competition, with both individual and team prizes to be won. There will also be a ‘nearest-the-pin’ and a ‘longest drive’ competition, rounded off with a three course dinner and presentation evening. We’re hoping that the TQUK team brings home the trophies!
