In anticipation of Chinese New Year which will start on the 5th February and in honour of our international business hub in Hong Kong, we’re celebrating the Year of the Pig in 2019!
The pig is the twelfth of all the Chinese zodiac animals. People born in the years 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995 and 2007 can all lay claim to being a pig.

Character-wise, people who were born in the Year of the Pig are very realistic, sincere and prefer action over thinking. Pigs also tend to enjoy life and will treat themselves to little luxuries while not being greedy or wasteful. They will be slightly materialistic, but this gives them the motivation to work hard!
Pigs are reliable workhorses in any workplace since they are always enthusiastic about their work, even in jobs that may not be that interesting. Given the chance, they will rise to positions of power and make excellent managers.
Pigs are gentle and rarely lose their temper. Ultimately, they want everyone to live in harmony. They are very tolerant and understanding, and therefore make great teachers or coaches – jobs that require the nuturing of talent.
Fortune and prosperity?
Since it’s the Year of the Pig, you might think that pigs have a fortunate and happy year ahead.
Well, unfortunately, that’s not the case.
In 2019, the Year of the Pig is set to be a fairly unlucky year for pigs born across all years.
2019 will be a transitional and turbulent year for pigs, with danger and risk lurking around every corner. By contrast, 2020 is set to be far more profitable. Rather than seeing 2019 as something to be endured, pigs should use 2019 as an opportunity to identify shortcomings that they can improve on.
In order to bring yourself as much luck as possible this year, attend cheerful events like weddings and family gatherings and avoid negative locations like hospitals and graveyards. The unluckiest times for a pig will be September 12th 2019 – December 2nd 2019.

Pigs in the pen
We’ve got quite a few pigs in the office, all sharing the same delightful birth year, 1995: Thomas Concannon, Junior Graphic Designer; Nathan Carrington, Business Support Officer; Matthew Whitton, Quality Coordinator; and Lewis Skilbeck, Business Support Officer. We went around the office asking all the pigs what they thought of their horoscope predictions:
Thomas Concannon: “They got the bits about my personality spot on. Looking ahead at my prediction for the year seems like I have to be calm and collected and just get through it. Though I feel, with the support of the workplace, that this year will go pretty smoothly for me.”
Nathan Carrington: “I appreciate the zodiac’s sentiment, though I’d like to think that I’m in control of the year ahead. This way, I don’t have to worry about it being so bad!”
Matthew Whitton: “The past few months at TQUK have presented numerous opportunities that have been equally challenging and fulfilling, and I can look forward to diving into the nitty-gritty of robust quality assurance and deepening my relationship with our centres.”
Lewis Skilbeck: “Success won’t come straight away. This year is for working hard to set me up for the future. Never give up.”
